The DHS Childcare website project was mainly a design
job in which I met with April Cox, from Network Six, and the folks
at DHS and we proceeded to toss around a couple of ideas. The
site is for a division of the Department of Human Services Childcare
Division of Rhode Island.
The design is used on in internal application. One
of the focuses of the project was that the layout would represent
the Childcare division with a bit of life and fun. I was given
a general direction but they gave me a great deal of creative
freedom to work with. Also I was starting from scratch and developed
the DHS logo for them.
The main design item on both the login page and
the secondary page is the header which has the logo of the rainbow
over DHS Childcare and then the repeating background of the countryside
was used so the header would look good on any resolution. We only
incorporated the one graphic style header because this is an internal
database driven site.
The Login page has a little more character then
the inside pages because it is not a database page. Thus I was
able to incorporate some more graphics and color. We searched
through the Stock Photo site Eyewire and selected the circle of
children on the ground because it was created a circle of children
which showed equality and unity. I chose the brush strokes in
primary colors because the echo the mark making of a child.
> Photoshop and Illustrator were used to design
the layout.
> Fireworks and Dreamweaver were used to create
the HTML and then modify it.
> The stockphotos came from Eyewire.com
> This project was done over a three week period
under the supervision of the project manager April Cox.
